Today in the News:
– Magnolia Bakery in West Village shut down over mice infestation
– Maker’s Mark Won’t Cut Alcohol Content
– Burger King’s Twitter account hacked, becomes mouthpiece for McDonald’s
The city Health Department shut down Magnolia Bakery’s flagship West Village location over the weekend, because of a mice infestation. The popular cupcake shop, which gained fame after it was featured on “Sex and the City,” was shuttered Thursday after mouse holes and droppings were found. A company spokeswoman said the mice were confined to the basement. Because of the flooding from Hurricane Sandy, a lot of mice have moved inward, and that was apparently the issue that was found in the basement. Until then yummy famous cup cakes not so much.
Maker’s Mark drew a storm of complaints when the venerable bourbon distiller announced this week it would be diluting its whisky due to anticipated supply shortages, but today it announced it is scrapping the plan. Effective immediately, the company said, it was reversing its decision to lower the alcohol content of Maker’s Mark, and would resume production at 45 percent alcohol by volume. The response came after angry Maker’s Mark lovers took to Twitter to complain about the company lowering the alcohol content. Yeah Maker’s Mark dont mess with the US citizen and their love of high alcohol levels.
Yesterday Burger King’s official Twitter account announced that the Whopper-slinging burger chain had been sold to McDonald’s. Unfortunately for McDonald’s fans, the announcement was the result of Burger King’s account being hacked. The unknown hackers changed the background image on Burger King’s account to feature McDonald’s new Fish Bites while they also changed the account’s handle to “McDonalds” and the avatar picture to the famous Golden Arches. After nearly an hour and half of fake tweet, Twitter suspended the account. It is kinda funny I gotta say.
