– Ravens hold off 49ers after power outage for Super Bowl victory.
– Experts find remains of England’s King Richard III
– Obama encourages Boy Scouts of America to end ban on gays
Last night’s super bowl had it all, But the Ravens held on to win their second Super Bowl title in franchise history. We saw drama, we saw perseverance, we saw a live performance by Beyonce that pretty much knocked us all out and what would we have done without a good old power outage?! The game was electric but facebook was going nuts over Beyonce’s performance! What a star! What a show! Congratulations to the Ravens! Baby you are our Halo halo halo!!
Scientists say they have found the 500-year-old remains of England’s King Richard III under a parking lot, slightly unglamorous, in the city of Leicester. University of Leicester researchers say tests on a battle-scarred skeleton unearthed last year prove “beyond reasonable doubt” that it is the king, who died at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, and whose remains have been missing for centuries. And DNA from the skeleton matches a sample taken from a distant living relative of Richard’s sister. The last English monarch to die in battle, Richard was depicted in a play by William Shakespeare as a hunchbacked tyrant who literally climbed over numerous dead bodies, to get to the throne. Although many historians say that villainous image is unfair, and argue Richard’s reputation was smeared by his Tudor successors. The monarch will be put back to rest in the city’s cathedral, now that’s a bi more fitting for a king.
President Barack Obama on Sunday encouraged the Boy Scouts of America to end its ban on gay members and leaders, days before the group is expected to vote on the controversial and long-standing rule. Obama – who last year gave his backing to the right of same sex couples to marry – said gays and lesbians should be able to participate in “every institution” that others can. After criticism from gay rights groups as well as gay former Scouts and Scout leaders, the BSA national executive board is expected to vote Wednesday, on whether to lift the ban it had reaffirmed just last year. The organization said last month it was considering ending its national ban on gay youth and adult members and leaving policies on sexual orientation to its local organizations. Hmmm I wonder what that’s supposed to mean…
