Today on CPreports:
– North Korea is proceeding with a third nuclear test
– U.S. to lift ban on women in front-line combat jobs
– and NJ man sues Subway over too-short Footlongs
North Korea really has it in for the US. and is threatening to carry out further rocket launches and a nuclear test that would target the its sworn enemy, the United States. The announcement by the country’s top military body came shortly after the U.N. Security Council agreed to a U.S.-backed resolution to censure and sanction North Korea for a rocket launch in December, that breached U.N. rules. North Korea said the rocket launch was solely aimed at putting a satellite into space for peaceful purposes. Yeah right! Even China – North Korea’s closest ally and biggest trading partner – is getting nervous about all this, and backed Tuesday’s Security Council resolution, a move that North Korea is probably not too happy about. Well anyhoo let’s hope that someone can stop this nonsense soon.
The U.S. military will formally end its ban on women serving in front-line combat roles, in a move that could open thousands of fighting jobs to female service members for the first time. The move knocks down another barrier in the U.S. armed forces, after the Pentagon abandoned its “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy on gays and lesbians serving in the military. The American Civil Liberties Union, which filed a suit in November seeking to force the Pentagon to end the ban on women in combat, applauded the planned move and so do we! Cause who rules the world? Girls! Girl Power!
A reward card-carrying Subway fan is fighting back against false advertising, filing a lawsuit against Subway, accusing the fast-food giant of ripping off customers for more than $142 million with its short “Footlongs.” Jason Leslie, of Marlboro, NJ, decided to sue the sandwich maker, after he saw an article, that revealed the “$5 Footlong” subs often don’t measure up. Leslie, recently bought a Footlong meatball sub for $8 that ended up being short of 12 inches. In the federal class-action suit, filed in Trenton, Leslie’s lawyers estimate that 25 percent of the company’s revenues come from selling Footlong subs, totaling $2.85 billion a year. Roughly 5 percent of that — or $142.5 million — represents “unfair and deceptive revenue,” based on the fact that each Footlong is at least a half-inch short of 12 inches. Leslie we salute you and good luck with the lawsuit! False advertising is a personal pet peeve of many of us I am sure!
