So yesterday Draghi got us all excited by hinting on the possibility the ECB may unleash a wave of sovereign bond buying. Financial markets breathed a sigh of relief, so you can imagine the disappointment, when we found out today, that Germany, the euro zones paymaster, is putting a plug into this idea. Germany just doesn’t see more bond buying as a sensible solution to the debt crisis, because this would create false incentives for governments. Spain and Italy are on the down spiral with Spain’s borrowing costs of its 10 year bond rising above 7%. Apparently there are talks between Germany and Spain regarding a certain bailout, of about 300 billion euros, if its borrowing costs remain unsustainable. However rumor also has it, that the ECB and the euro zone’s rescue fund are revving up its engines after all, to start buying Spanish and Italian debt, to bring their borrowing costs. In the meantime Greece, euro zone ultimate slacker, is still unable to meet expectation of the poor souls who put their names down, to save this seemingly sinking ship. Stay tuned for more updates!
Facebook is making headlines as the markets were waiting for their first earnings report, and as suspected investors expectations were not met. Facebooks profit sank on the backdrop of rising costs, which is never a good combination. The company’s shares dropped by 10% yesterday, to land at $24.12 a share. Wall Street still thinks the stock is overvalued. Facebook blames the smartphones for its failure to make money, since a lot of their users access the platform from their phones, which is not yet infested with ads. Oh man please don’t put ads on my iPhone Facebook!
Today at 4pm, the event we have been waiting for with anticipation! Danny Boyle will show us what he and some 14,000 volunteer performers got in store for us! Very humbly Boyle stated that he will probably not be able to please everyone, but we sure hope he is doing his best to wow us! After 7 years of preparations, today at 4pm US Eastern Time the Olympic Games 2012 Ceremony will kick off, during which we will see the end of the 70 day journey of the Olympic flame culminating in the lighting of the cauldron! At which point the identity of the person who will take on this honour, shall be revealed! Oh the suspense!!!
