We can all breathe a sigh of relief, as good old Draghi, makes the stock markets fly high, with a statement that the European Central Bank will take all necessary steps to preserve the Euro. Draghi hinted on the possibility of unleashing a wave of sovereign bond buying. In the meantime, European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso, is travelling to Greece to see if the euro zone’s biggest slacker, is doing enough to make up for its prolonged slacking, and if it is worthy to receive more money from Germany. If Barroso remains unsatisfied, Greece may lose the final amount of the official bailout, a total of 31.5 billion euros. The financial industry is still torn on the issue of whether or not a Grexit from the eurone is looming or not.
Iran is still very upset about the cyber attacks that were launched against its nuclear program. Iran is under the impression that the United States, Israel and Britain might have had something to do with it…yeeeeeah…they are probably right. In any case an Iranian official said yesterday, that if the attacks won’t stop, the retaliation would be “teeth-breaking”. Western powers are suspecting that Iran’s nuclear program is not as much for peaceful purposes as it is for teeth breaking purposes. Harsh sanctions on Iran are already driving up inflation in the country. Remains to be seen whose teeth are gonna get broken first.
And in the Olympics we are off to a great start with the first glitch in the system. Right before a women’s soccer match between the North Korean and Colombian team, Olympic Officials accidently displayed the South Korean flag instead of the North Korean flag. Ooooooops. Honest mistake though wouldn’t you say? In protest of this minor hiccup, the North Korean team did not come out to play for 40min. I am assuming, that’s how long it took officials to perform the Western apology ritual dance. Let the games begin!!!
