Good news for US policy makers as they try to put more pressure on Iran with tougher sanctions. Iran is the world’s third biggest oil exporter, and the threat of sanction has been driving oil prices up, but over the past few weeks, the combination of a higher output from Saudi Arabia and economic turmoil in China and Europe, has pushed oil prices back down by 25%. US policy makers are now revving up their effort to put even more pressure on Iran, to stop them from developing their nuclear program. Iran still maintains that their nuclear program is being developed for strictly civilian purposes – yeah right! Iran is already losing oil export volume of as much as 1 million barrels per day, which is worth about $90 million, as a result of the sanctions and the EU embargo. If only Mr. Putin would jump on board!

A late demand for better terms by key shareholders, is shaking the highly anticipated Glencore acquisition of Xstrata. Global commodities trader Glencore has offered to pay $26 billion for miner Xstrata, together they would merge into a $60 billion market cap company, with the potential to reshape the global landscape of the mining industry. After months of silence, Qatar Holding, which is the second largest shareholder of Xstrata, decided that the share ratio of 2.8 is not enough and should be at 3.25. There is also some discord between shareholders on the executive compensation. Both Glencore’s and Xstrata’s shares fell on Tuesday, as it appears that the deal will not go through under the current terms.

Apple has dealt a massive blow to Samsung. A California judge rules, that Samsung would not be permitted to sell its Galaxy 10.1 touchscreen tablet in the US, acting in favor of Apples patent infringement lawsuit against the Korean giant. Apple claimed Samsung had copied its design and look, which if you look at it is kind of true. But Samsung is already on the move with a retaliation and has designed a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (2), to which the ban does not apply, yet…take that Apple, whose iPad we love.

So depending on how you look at it, this could be either the saddest, or most joyous news we might have heard in a while. One of London’s main attractions, the one we grew to love and appreciate, the most well known tower around the world, is to be renamed! “Our beloved Big Ben is to be now called Elizabeth Tower, in honor of the queen’s 60th year, of the British throne. Apparently reactions by the public were mixed, and many Britons were opposed to this preposterous idea…” as I said, you either gonna love it or hate it. I will definitely continue to refer to this monument as Big Ben and nothing else!
