Today in the News:
– JPMorgan exec sued over ‘bullying’ behavior
– The Brooklyn protest escalates with 50 people ending up in jail
– and it is Pi Day! Stay tuned to find out why we celebrate this day
A JPMorgan Chase executive got a little too bullish in the firm’s Financial District offices — bodychecking and threatening to punch male colleagues like a hockey goon and getting pushy with the ladies, according to a new lawsuit. Plaintiff Walter Suarez, a former financial adviser, was banished to the company’s Delancey Street outpost when he complained about colleague Michael Quach. The move cost Suarez an $80 million client list, $20 million of which was taken by JPMorgan, his lawyers claim. According to Suarez, Quach was a bully who resorted to physical violence to intimidate colleagues. I guess this boy got a little too bullish in the office – keep it to the markets boys! Survivng Wall Street is hard enough – you dont have to punch each other out on top of it.
Apparently, a police officer was smashed in the face with a brick and 50 people were arrested, as unrest over a teenager shot dead by cops continued to plague a Brooklyn neighborhood last night. For the second time this week, swarms of youths roamed the streets of East Flatbush, armed with bottles and bricks. One of those arrested was the sister of 16-year-old Kimani Gray, who police said pointed a loaded pistol at two officers before they gunned him down Saturday. Mahnefah Gray and most of the others were charged with disorderly conduct. Last night’s trouble came after officials revealed yesterday that Kimani, a reputed Bloods gang member, had been hit with seven bullets. Three of those in his back. There has been some unrest on Twitter questioning why mainstream media is keeping quiet about he protest and I think it’s a good question.
Happy Pi Day everyone! Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14, since 3, 1 and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day. Pi is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely, without repetition or pattern. There are many ways of observing Pi Day. These include eating pie, discussing the significance of the number π and more recently watching Life Of Pi, great movie by the way. The town of Princeton, New Jersey hosts numerous events in a combined celebration of Pi Day and Albert Einstein’s birthday, which is also March 14. Einstein lived in Princeton for more than twenty years while working at the Institute for Advanced Study. In addition to pie eating and recitation contests, there is an annual Einstein look-alike contest.
