Today in the News:
– American-US Air $11 billion merger gets board OK
– Afghan women march against violence
– The Naked Cowboy getting hitched
Some might call it the biggest merger of the year and some might cal it their worst nightmare coming true. In an $11 billin deal American Airlines and US Airways are merging into one big blob o become the biggest airline in the world. Mind you I didnt say the best, just biggest. The combined carrier will be called American Airlines but run by US Airways. Oh common that’ kinda boring. What’s wrong with American Airways – the airline that never loses your baggage and never cancels flights because of inexplicable reasons. Good one I know. Oh and don’t forget that all this is part of a better and greater mission for both airlines: first of all the merger would create savings of more than $1 billion a year, and it will be part of American Airline’s plan for exiting bankruptcy protection.
Dozens of Afghan activists and supporters marked Valentine’s Day by marching the streets of Kabul to denounce violence against women amid reports that domestic abuse is on the rise. Afghan women have made great strides in education and official circles since the days under Taliban rule, when they had to wear all-encompassing burqas and were not allowed to go to school or leave their homes without a male relative as an escort. But they still face widespread domestic violence, forced marriages and other difficulties. Organizers said some 200 people, men and women, participated in the march, which was planned by several Afghan rights groups as part of a global domestic violence awareness campaign called One Billion Rising. Past protests supporting women’s rights have been attacked by hecklers and men throwing stones, so this time riot police with helmets and shields stood guard. A great cause for this Valentine’s Day! Without women there would be no men.Violence has to stop.
And talking about Valentine’s Day, the most romantic Day of the year is upon us, and here at Corporate profile we strongly believe Valentines should be every day and not only on the days where red roses become twice as expensive for some mysterious reason. But anyhoo I thought you ladies here in NYC and future tourists to NYC should know that one of the most elligible bachelors of the Big Apple is tying the knot. The infamous Times Square Naked Cowboy is getting married. Yes lades we have all missed the boat on this one. The singing stud, a.k.a. Robert Burck, said he plans to marry Patricia Cruz on Friday in a private ceremony at his manager’s home in LA. Apparently, if the future Mrs. Naked Cowboy asks him to, the Naked Cowboy would hang up his tighty-whities for good. Don’t ou dare asking him that Mrs. Cruz. It would be like taking down the Statue of Liberty, if you take this man away from Times Square.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Be happy be kind, love each other on this day and every day.
