Today on CPreports:
– Beyonce and J-Z steal President Obama’s thunder at his own inauguration
– Russia is pushing for anti-gay Law
– and The 43rd annual meeting of the World Economic Forum sets off in Davos
Washington’s power brokers were star struck yesterday — not by the president or first lady but by the entertainment world’s first couple, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Fawning politicians scrambled for the their cellphones to snap photos of the sexy siren and her hip-hop-mogul hubby at President Obama’s inauguration. It was as if Obama was playing second fiddle at his own party. Politicians were caught on camera taking photos of the 1st couple of the Pop World. Beyoncé’s performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” was an absolute crowd pleaser and Bill Clinton’s photo bomb as Kelly Clarkson went to perform “My Country ‘Tis of Thee, will probably go into viral history books. And what did President Obama have to say at his inauguration? We have to seize the moment he said and issued a plea for political unity while embracing liberal causes such as immigration reform, gay rights and the fight against climate change.
And speaking of gay rights, in Russia if a bill that comes up for a first vote later this month becomes law, a public kiss between same sex couples could be defined as illegal “homosexual propaganda” and bring a fine of up to $16,000. The legislation being pushed by the Kremlin and the Russian Orthodox Church would make it illegal nationwide to provide minors with information that is defined as “propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism.” It includes a ban on holding public events that promote gay rights. St. Petersburg and a number of other Russian cities already have similar laws on their books. The bill is part of an effort to promote traditional Russian values as opposed to Western liberalism, which the Kremlin and church see as corrupting Russian youth. However they failed to notice that this is exactly what is fueling the mass protests against President Vladimir Putin’s rule. It’s a catch 22 of idiotism in Russia.
The 43rd annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, which is being held at the Swiss mountain resort Davos, began today and runs until January 27. The lingering eurozone debt crisis set the stage for a gloomy 42nd World Economic Forum. How to resolve the region’s sovereign debt crisis, is of the main topics this year. German chancellor Angela Merkel said that the crisis could not be resolved overnight, but maintained that Europe’s unemployment problem was “solvable”. In her opinion debt-ridden euro countries have to implement structural reforms. Veteran financier George Soros, said euro bonds should be part of the solution to the euro crisis and that austerity alone would lead to a “deflationary debt spiral.” On twitter there are jokes about how Davos is a place where the rich plot to get richer, true or false? Post your comments!
