Today on CPreports the US government is concerned about China’s growing space program. Obama rejects Star Wars’ Fan’s petition to build Death Star and Ben Afflek cleans up at the Golden Globes.

The United States is concerned about China’s expanding ability to disrupt the most sensitive U.S. military and intelligence satellites, as Beijing pursues its expanded ambitions in space, according to multiple sources in the U.S. government and outside space experts. A classified U.S. intelligence assessment completed late last year raised red flags about Beijing’s ability to disrupt satellites in higher orbits, which could put the most sensitive U.S. spacecraft at risk. Washington is keeping a watchful eye on Chinese activities that could be used to disrupt U.S. satellites. It is also urging Beijing to avoid a repeat of its January 2007 test that created an enormous amount of “space junk,”. China’s anti-satellite activities are part of a major military modernization that has seen Beijing test two new stealth fighters; step up cyber attacks on foreign computer networks; and launch more commercial and military satellites in 2012 than the United States.

Star Wars fans were quick to react though and sent in an official petition to build Death Star, the moon-sized planet-killing space station from Star Wars. In an official statement the White House confirmed that unfortunately for Star Wars fans, it ill not act up on a petition and the official response goes something like this: The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850 quadrillion. Plus the Us governments is working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it. The Administration does not support blowing up planets. Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship? So there you go. No Death Star it is…sorry Star Wars fans, we will have to find other ways to battle China’s sudden ascend into space.

The Oscars may have bypassed Ben Affleck for best director, but the Golden Globes showed they love him last night as he took home best directing and best picture honors for “Argo.” Just days after his Academy Awards directing nod fell through amid cries of Hollywood politics, the Globe’s Beverly Hills ballroom erupted in cheers as Affleck was honored for his direction of the Iranian hostage drama. “Les Misérables” and the epic’s star Hugh Jackman took home top honors for a musical or comedy movie and actor. Jessica Chastain was honored as best actress in a dramatic movie role for “Zero Dark Thirty,” playing the CIA analyst credited with pinpointing Osama bin Laden’s whereabouts in Pakistan. And surprisingly Jennifer Lawrence outed herself in her acceptance speech of the globe for best actress in Silver Linings Playbook, by joking about winning against Meryl Streep…youza! Bet her PR team wasnt too happy with that performance.
