German chancellor Angela Merkel is in town, in Athens to be precise and for some reason the Greek population wasn’t so happy about it. Why are they not so happy about her visit? Because many ignorant people blame her for the painful saving measures that were imposed on Greece, after they have been consistently driving themselves into bankruptcy, cause by corruption and greed. How about some gratitude, for the two bailout packages you received worth over 200 billion euros!? Instead Greek police fired teargas and stun grenades at violent protesters in central Athens, some of which were dressed as German soldiers waving the Nazi swastika flags and performing the Nazi salute. I mean I gotta say the Greeks do have some sense of humor given the situation they are in, but we shall see who laughs last. Without the next bailout installment, Greece will go bankrupt and down the drain by end of November. And this is definitely not Angela Merkel’s fault! But the fault of the greedy and corrupt Greeks themselves. What do you guys out there think? Post your comments!

Amidst already strained US-China relations, yesterday the U.S. House of Representatives’ Intelligence Committee warned American companies, to stop doing business with Huawei Technologes Co Ltd and ZTE Corporation, warning that China could use equipment made by the companies, to spy on certain communications and threaten vital systems through computerized links. China’s Commerce ministry, Shen Danyang, has rejected these accusation as subjective suspicions and groundless accusations. Hmmm stay tuned for more updates on this. I can sense interesting material for a good movie coming out of this.

And apropos good movie material, A French and an American scientist were awarded the Nobel Prize today, for finding ways to measure quantum particles without destroying them, which could make it possible to build a new kind of computer far more powerful than any seen before. The American, David Wineland describes his own work as a “parlor trick”, that performs the seemingly magical trick of putting an object in two places at the same time. Other scientists praised the achievements as bringing to life the wildest dreams of science fiction. You can almost hear Hollywood’s writers little feet shuffling over to Starbucks to write their movie scripts on this.

You may have heard of him. You may have not. But today might mark a historic day for extreme athlete and skydiver Felix Baumgartner. Five years he has been preparing for this day, when he will be attempting a stunt no man has attempted before – namely a 23-mile free fall into the southeastern New Mexico desert. The 43-year-old Austrian will take off in a 55-story, ultra-thin and easy-to-tear helium balloon that will take him into the stratosphere for a jump that he hopes will make him the first skydiver to break the sound barrier and shatter three other world records. Almost three hours it will take him to get to the desired 120,000 feet, at which point Baumgartner plans to take a bunny-style hop from a pressurized capsule into a near-vacuum, where there is almost no oxygen, to begin what is expected to be the fastest, farthest free fall from the highest-ever manned balloon. Well good luck to you Mr. Baumgartner!
