General Motors is having some trouble making cars lately.well functioning cars to be precise. It’s kinda a tough situation, when you are America’s Nr.1 car producer. Anyhoo.GM was forced to recall 473,841 Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn sedans world wide.well mainly in the US and Canada.Europeans just know better! GM need to fix a minor malfunction, that could make your car roll out of its place, even though it’s in park. 4 crashes have been caused by this minor hiccup already, but luckily no one was hurt yet. And as the icing on top of this foul cake, GM will also be recalling 6,475 Chevy Sonic subcompact cars world wide (again mainly in the US I am sure) because the functionality to alert the driver to a faulty turn-signal bulb, might not be working so well. I say y’all switch to German cars…they just now how to do it!

Ok so I just read something very shocking in the news. So you know how we all like to eat popcorn while we r watching a movie? Yes that sweet crunchy stuff with tons of butter. I mean it’s almost a MUST for many of us, when you go to the movies. Right? Well a US man has just been paid out 7.2 million dollars in damages, after he developed a condition called “popcorn lung” from inhaling artificial butter in microwave popcorn! “Popcorn lung” is a form of irreversible obstructive lung disease, that scars the lung and makes it difficult to breathe. A Colorado jury agreed with the suffering Wayne Watson, that popcorn manufacturer Gilster-Mary Lee Corp, should have had warning labels stating, that the bag’s fumes were dangerous to inhale. Ya think?!?! The verdict is the latest in a series of successful cases, including by popcorn plant workers who became ill. The cases link dia-cetyl, an ingredient in the flavouring, to health problems. Well aren’t you glad I told you?! Where is the FDA looking on this one???!

Clearly the US patent office must be overworked lately, so why not get the public involved to weed out the good ones from the bad patent applications. The US patent office wants the public to contribute to a website, where they can help find bogus patent applications for technology that has already been invented. The participating fake patent detectives, will also be able to flag up patents they think are bogus. The website, is called Ask Patents, and will be run by US firm Stack Exchange. The hope is to reduce the number of mistakenly granted patents, that tend to slip through the fingers of US patent clerks, who on average have less than 22.5 hours to examine an application. Some individuals and organisations have used the award of a patent, to win cash from firms that, unlike Apple and Samsung, do not have the financial resources, to launch legal action against such claims. So this is a great idea, but begs the question: what will the public volunteer helpers getting in return? What do you guys out there think? Should the public volunteers get an award in return?
