I don’t’ know about you, but something tells me, that the stupid American produced low budget movie, that makes fun of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, is a bit of a bad excuse, to air anti US feelings, that continue to linger, in Islamist hearts. “Not our prophet! He is a red Line!” demonstrators shouted in unison, outside the US Embassy in SANA, Yemen. The demonstration in Yemen includes, climbing the embassy walls, the attempt to shatter windows and burning of the American flag. For your information, Yemen is the poorest country on the Arab peninsula and one of the most unstable. And unfortunately, as we all know, with poverty, comes poor education and frustration, that a tiny spark like the poorly produced film, can turn into a wild fire. Protests have also been reported in Egypt, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia. U.S. President Barack Obama vowed to “bring to justice” those responsible and the U.S. military moved two navy destroyers, towards the Libyan coast. Some of the actors involved, have since condemned the film, and said they had no idea it was to be used as anti-Islam propaganda. Honestly so what? Someone speaks out against the bible, or the Christian or Catholic God, do we go out burning down embassies? For crying out loud. Religion should not be exempt from freedom of speech. The Federal Reserve appears set to launch a third round of unconventional monetary stimulus on Thursday while signaling that a weak economy may warrant ultra-low interest rates for at least another three years. Not everyone believes the Fed will embark on another bond- buying spree, and plenty of doubts remain about the likely efficacy of such a move. But Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has made clear the central bank will not sit idly by while unemployment, currently at 8.1 percent, remains so far above levels consistent with a healthy economic recovery. At about 12.30pm Eastern time we shall know more. Give us some good news Bernanke!
And talking about good news, UK researchers say they have taken a huge step forward in treating deafness after stem cells were used to restore hearing in animals for the first time. Hearing partially improved when nerves in the ear, which pass sounds into the brain, were rebuilt in gerbils. It is still a distant prospect, but getting the same improvement in people, would be a shift from being unable to hear traffic to hearing a conversation. On a slightly more controversial note, however, the scientist used stem cells from a human embryo, which are capable of becoming any other type of cell in the human body from nerve to skin, muscle to kidney. What do you think? Is it acceptable in your opinion, to use human embryonic stem cells to restore hearing? Post your comments!
