Thousands of protesters are marching the streets of Moscow, demanding new elections and a new president. This is the first big demonstration since Putin resumed his unwelcome presidency for a third term. In a televised comment Putin had sais “we cannot accept anything that weakens our country or divides society”…well of course not because any unrest and call for justice would threaten his seat as president, and what president likes that? Independent media sites went down right before the demonstrations started, while the most charismatic opposition leaders, including Alexei Navalny are being held by authorities for questioning. Sounds like the perfect recipe for authoritarian regime, I’d say.
As previously reported, Apple has now officially unveiled its new Map App as well as a new and improved Siri, iPhone’s Voice assistant. With Google’s Android mobile platform growing rapidly, Apple made this move to strengthen its own position in the fast growing and highly competitive mobile space. Apple’s mapping system took years to develop, and will be included in Apple’s new mobile software iOS6. It will also be replacing the pre-loaded Google Maps, that we have come to love, with its own app on the iPhone and iPad. The preparations for the Olympic Games of 2012 are well under way in London, and the opening ceremony details are revealed! At the cost of a whopping 27million British Pounds, the Olympic Stadium will be turned into the British Countryside for the ceremony July 27th, to create a visual of what Britain is all about. The setup is created and directed by Danny Boyle, yes that very same one who enthralled us with Slumdog Millionaire!, and will feature meadows, fields and rivers, with families taking picnics, people playing sports on the village green and farmers tilling the soil. One Billion people worldwide are expected to watch the ceremony, and I am definitely going to be one of them!
